Rhian began her planning career in 2016 as an apprentice at Flintshire County Council, within the Planning and Environment portfolio. This experience begun her interest in town planning and laid the foundation for her professional journey in the field.
Upon completing her apprenticeship, Rhian joined Cheshire West and Chester Council as a Planning Validation Officer, where she quickly progressed to the role of Student Planner. During this time, Rhian pursued a master’s degree in Town and Regional Planning at Leeds Beckett University, balancing studying with hands-on professional experience. Rhian proudly completed her master’s with distinction in 2023.
Throughout Rhian’s master’s program she focused on the vital link between public health and the town planning system in England, particularly in relation to advancing active lifestyles. This remains one of Rhian’s key area of interest and she is deeply committed to promoting healthy, sustainable developments that enhance communities and quality of life.
Since Rhian achieved her master’s qualification, she has held planning officer roles at both Flintshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council. These positions have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the Welsh Planning System and allowed her to contribute to a range of major development projects, including affordable housing schemes, tourism and leisure applications, and renewable energy schemes.
Outside of Rhian’s professional career she actively participates in the North East Wales Netball League and enjoys paddleboarding, with her favourite SUP locations being Llyn Padarn and Traeth Llanddwyn.
