Land at Old Hall Street, Middleton

This webpage has been set up to help inform and capture feedback from the public and local stakeholders on the proposed redevelopment of the former Storage World unit at Old Hall Street in Middleton.

The Storage World building was destroyed by fire in June 2025 at which point it was home to 74 micro businesses employing circa 100 people on site, as well as providing space for hundreds of self-storage customers.

A full planning application will soon be submitted to replace the building on a smaller footprint that will retain the same amount of space to attract back businesses who have lost their base along with new businesses and storage customers across the Middleton area.

The applicant team has been closely engaging for several months with Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and the Development Agency to ensure a significantly improved scheme can be delivered, with design and materials drawing reference from local heritage assets and with land identified for public realm and future residential development as well.

The replacement building will be sited on about half of the existing site and will also introduce units at the ground floor which activate the Assheton Way / Old Hall frontages seeking to be able accommodate additional town centre uses.

The slide deck below provides more information and plans on the evolution of the development proposal and summarises the key benefits it will bring. The presentation can be paused, enlarged or downloaded.
