Application submitted in Bury

P4 Planning has submitted a full planning application on behalf of Crown Gas & Power for a major new employment-led development at Chamberhall Business Park, Bury, representing a significant inward investment and long-term commitment to the town.

The proposal seeks planning permission for the erection of a four-storey headquarters office building with ancillary sports facilities, alongside five modern mixed-use employment units, together with associated access, parking and high-quality landscaping on a vacant site within the established business park.

Crown Gas & Power is a family-run commercial energy supplier founded in 2001 and named Energy Supplier of the Year at the Energy Awards 2024. The proposed relocation will enable the business to more than double its workforce, growing from around 120 employees to approximately 300 over the coming years, supported by an investment of circa £12 million in Bury.

Matthew Greensmith, managing director said; “We’re proud of our roots in Bury and excited about the opportunity to develop a new headquarters for Crown Gas & Power that supports the business’s continued growth”.

The 2.25-hectare site is allocated for employment use and benefits from an accessible and sustainable location, within easy walking distance of Bury Interchange, nearby bus services and key cycling routes. This high level of connectivity was a key factor in Crown Gas & Power’s decision to invest locally, supporting recruitment, retention and sustainable travel choices.

The proposed headquarters building has been designed to sit sensitively within its surroundings, reflecting the scale and character of neighbouring development while taking advantage of the site’s central pond to create an attractive working environment. Ancillary sports facilities, including a five-a-side football pitch and padel courts, are proposed for staff use to support employee health and wellbeing.

In addition, five new speculative employment units will provide flexible commercial floorspace suitable for a range of business, industrial and storage uses, helping to meet local demand and support wider economic growth.

P4 Planning is acting as the planning agent alongside Barrowclough Architects and a wider consultant team. The application has been informed by detailed technical work and pre-application engagement with the Council. The proposals align closely with local and strategic planning policy and will bring forward high-quality employment development on a long-allocated site.

We look forward to working with Bury Council to secure permission and deliver this important scheme. If you would like to learn more about the proposed scheme, please visit Bury Council’s public access website, using the application ref. 72790.
