Hear from one of our current colleagues, Olivia, about why she joined our team

“I joined in September 2020 as an Assistant Planner and have since been promoted to Planner”

What attracted you to P4 Planning?

“When I joined I was in the initial stage of preparing for my APC submission and I was particularly attracted by the opportunity to work alongside experienced RTPI Assessors. I had previously worked at a national real estate agency and I felt moving to a smaller specialist firm would give me greater exposure to a wider range of planning projects. The flexible working on offer was an additional benefit.”

What’s your experience of working here been like?

“I have been really fortunate to have already gained a diverse range of experience. My day-to-day work includes: research and planning due diligence; the drafting of written reports to accompany planning submissions; the post-submission liaison with council officers to resolve consultee and neighbour comments; and providing support through the appeal process.

As I have gained more experience, I have been given the responsibility to project manage some of our smaller schemes where I am helping develop client relationships and budget control.”

What have been your highlights – personal and professional?

“A major professional highlight would be my recent promotion from assistant planner to planner.

Personally, I have enjoyed leading on the various New World Trading Company projects that have come forward over the last couple of years. Most recent of these being the winterisation projects at The Oast House and The Canal House where we secure planning permission for temporary outdoor structures. These weather-proof outdoor spaces sought to support and improve the venues’ existing operations during the winter months and have been critical to maintain trade and protect jobs.”

How do you see your future?

“P4 has introduced monthly feedback meetings which I have found really helpful to identify what I have been doing well, areas where I can improve, and to keep track of my professional development. I am looking forward to having more opportunities to manage larger projects and to develop my problem solving ability for more technical planning challenges.”
