Plans for New Liverpool City Centre Sports Facility

Acting on behalf of the University of Liverpool, P4 Planning has submitted a full planning application for a new 3G sports pitch, located close to the city’s vibrant Knowledge Quarter and part of the University’s wider masterplan.

The site is located on a 3,440 sq m area of land within the University of Liverpool’s city campus, which currently comprises a series of buildings off Mulberry Street, adjacent to the city’s Grade II* Listed Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

The new scheme proposes the demolition of the existing buildings which were originally constructed in the 1960s as on-campus student accommodation.  No longer able to provide the standard required for modern student living, the buildings have been vacant for the last five years and will be replaced by the sports pitch, with supporting infrastructure including equipment tables for teqball and table tennis.

It is the University of Liverpool’s intention for the facility to be available to the local community as well as students and staff and will open up the site to provide a sustainable development which respects the Mount Pleasant Conservation Area, within which it is partially located.

Says Rhian Thomas, Associate at P4 Planning: “This facility will introduce new sporting activity at the very heart of the University’s main campus, important for health and wellbeing and complementing the wider leisure offer”

Property and construction consultants, Cunliffes, acted as architects on the scheme.
